Woods

While I grew up in a rural(ish) sort of town, "playing in the woods" wasn't something that was part of my childhood; we played in the street, or in a backyard, but there wasn't much untamed forest near my home. Now that it's {finally} warm, I've been venturing out of my room and have found myself overwhelmed by the grounds around my campus-there's so much to see! And so little time to see it all-I'm frantically trying to fit it all in before I leave in two weeks for the summer. Luckily, my homework has been winding down-which means that there's plenty of time for exploration and adventures ....

Easter Break

april 19-22//bridgewater + bourne, ma//canon 5d {with new lens!}

While I've had a 50mm lens for almost two years now, it hasn't been the most magnificent of contraptions. It has a habit of breaking into two parts, which, as a result, has messed up the auto focus-and during spring break, when it stopped working almost entirely……I was pretty upset. After all, the 50mm is a great little lens, and I had just begun to discover the world in 1.8; luckily, my mom is psychic, and lo and behold, she and my dad gave me a new 50mm lens for my birthday! I'm deliciously obsessed with the results-one of the best things about a 50mm is that it's incredibly versatile while still being affordable, so definitely something to check out if you like photography!

Spring Break 2014
amanda//march 2014//boston, ma//canon 5d

I was lucky to snap this shot during spring break, and it's become one of my favorites. I love to capture the essence, the raw vulnerability of a person-I like to think you can see it in their eyes. There's a certain unknown about being this age right now-19, 20-that I personally believe manifests beautifully in front of a camera-In some of my friends, there's an easy confidence, but in a lot of friends, there's this slight hesitation. I don't know, I could be making this all up because I am too close to the people I photograph, that I imagine it, but I think there's something there.

I haven't been on the blog recently, mostly because I've been busy, partially because I've been bored. I turned 20 last week-if I can get my act together, I'll write about that-and thank god, it's gotten warmer. We're heading into those delicious couple of weeks where it's warm, and the schoolwork tapers off a little-the sunny days before the mosquitoes and gnats descend and the humidity makes us all melt-and I couldn't be more excited....

Spring

Spring

april 14 2014//amherst ma//canon 5d

I'm a little obsessed with this tree-I love yellow, and my affinity for blossoming trees has quadrupled, especially since this winter was so long. Right after I took these shots, I cut a couple of branches off, which are currently sitting in a bottle on my windowsill-it's nice to have a little bit of spring both inside and out.

 I don't know what happened, but I woke up one morning, and the world was right side up again, and all was good.
