{part one}
when your best friend goes to school in the bronx, one must take a little trip down to new york city-after all, in addition to getting to see a friendly face, there's the whole free bed in the big apple thing. so, early thursday morning found me sprinting to the train in my hometown, hiking backpack on my shoulders {thus began the love//hate relationship with my choice of luggage for the weekend}. from boston, i took a bus to the center of manhattan....where i got on a subway headed up to the bronx...and then a shuttle bus to my friend cristina's school. she gave me a quick little tour of her college, which is on the hudson river and used to be an insane asylum {creepy, but wicked beautiful}. the first night, we hung out at her dorm, and i got to meet all of her friends-a much needed quiet night after 8 hours of travel or so.

the next morning, cristina had class, so i jumped on the train and headed into the city, with not much of a clear idea of what to do, except that i wanted to make it to the metropolitan museum of art at some point. i ended up wandering around the upper west side, stopping at momofuku milk bar, where i indulged in their crack pie {seriously, the best thing on earth}. it was kind of gross out, a little chilly and rainy, all around raw weather, but i liked it; it was the kind of red cheek, make you feel alive weather that keeps a lot of people inside-meaning it wasn't too busy. i really enjoyed the neighborhood-it was full of quiet streets and beautiful, gothic buildings.

{part two coming soon}
