just a couple of snaps from my {mini} road trip to western massachusetts-my parents and i toured umass amherst + took a peek around surrounding towns amherst and northampton. i was pretty busy shoveling burnt sugar and butter ice cream {worth moving out here alone} into my mouth, but i managed to snap a couple of shots of the downtown//the coolest urban outfitters i'd ever seen. being a city girl at heart, forever and always, i didn't expect to like western mass, but the area surrounding umass is really beautiful and there are a lot of artsy little towns//public transportation, and i found that it really grew on me-maybe, just maybe, it may end up being my new home very soon...?

i've just been awfully content lately-listening to Adele's album 19 (which, at age 19 myself, seems very appropriate these days), wearing my hair like this, filling my sketchbook pages with thoughts during breaks at work + driving on highways. i'm starting to dream about the future a lot, and, sure, there's lots of nagging little worries about that in itself~majors and money and getting in, but i can ignore them, if i try hard enough. after all, there's plenty of time to worry about those things once i'm out of the inbetween......

{and, on a lighter note, what is my hand doing in the first picture???}

"for anyone who lives in the oak and maple area of New England, there is a perennial temptation to plunge into a purple sea of adjectives about October." {Hal Borland}

when i was younger, i used to wrinkle my nose and ask why people would come to massachusetts just to watch leaves fall, but i think i'm starting to get it now. autumn here is absolutely delicious, a mix of colors and textures that changes everyday-and i've been trying to capture it all. i'm wicked excited to head out to tour umass amherst on wednesday-partially because it is, {possibly} the next chapter in my life, but also because central//western mass is the most beautiful during these couple of weeks....

life's been awfully good recently-polka dot tights + milkmaid braids, overcast skies, beautiful rides home from work + laura marling//adele on spotify. oh, and the ALCS- can't forget my boys. {go sox!} it's always the little things, that add up and make you feel blessed :)

thoughts//personal style + minimalism

Little-blue-backpack-open-drawer-of-clothes

over the years, my taste in clothing has jumped around, changing and morphing into different things, becoming a conglomerate of different styles, a hodge podge of pieces and odds +ends. i've gotten to the point where i know exactly what i like {muted colors, double denim, doc martens, plaids, cozy sweaters, 'ethnic prints'} and what i don't like, {neon, crop tops, loud patterns, animal print, 'cutesy' things, overuse of vintage clothing} but i haven't quite defined what exactly my 'personal style' falls under-and i guess it will always be a mystery, because you can't always fit things in a clean box.

i've always had this dream about having a clean, basic wardrobe that was compact, classy, and ideal for traveling-a few pieces that could go a long way. being a poor college student has largely killed the concept of rebuilding my wardrobe from the ground up, but i had the opportunity to buy a lot of clothes for very cheap this weekend {thank you retail job} and i took it in stride, stocking up on all the things i needed to create the 'ideal wardrobe.'

being a minimalist at heart, being able to separate my essential possessions from my superfluous ones has always been something i've tried to do, and after cleaning out my closet, i can say that i am easily able to determine what is needed, and what is wanted. officially, i now own around four pairs of pants, six skirts, three pairs of shorts, eight or nine tees, seven blouses, six sweaters, six dresses, two men's shirts, three jackets, and eight pairs of shoes {excluding pajamas and 'athletic' wear}. depending on your preferences, this may sound like a little-or a lot-of clothing, yet the pieces are easily mixed +matched to create endless possibilities. and as weird as it may sound, knowing that i'm not weighed down with extraneous things that i 'occasionally' wear or use takes a weight off my shoulders.

 over the next few weeks, i'm going to be breaking this down into a couple of different posts to further explain what i think is necessary//the different pieces i own as a sort of foray into the world of style blogging, in the hopes that it may change the way others look at the clothing they own, so stay tuned!

Lorde appreciation post

I'm not quite sure how to explain my absolute love//awe of lorde and her newest album, pure heroine, but its safe to say that i haven't had an emotional connection to an artist like this since frank turner's england keep my bones. Each song reminds me of a moment during high school or my first year of college, of memories and flickers and feelings of something i can't quite put my finger on-beautiful and awful and haunting and perfect. One of the most amazing things, I think, is that she writes about being bored, because, what else is there for a sixteen, seventeen, nineteen year old to be? You listen to other young artists and they sing about things too old, too heavy, or relationships-but when i was 17, i wasn't in a relationship, or dropping bottles in the club-i was driving around with my friends, absorbing moments of stillness, working a fast food job and picking up a camera-i still am. i read a quote from her interview with the guardian, that blew me away~

"Everyone is so obsessed with how everything looks, how the party will look through a lens the next day. We all have Tumblr and we all have Instagram and everything. People care so much about it because, now, any random can be famous on the internet if their world looks good on Tumblr. And so everyone at high school strives for this kind of aesthetic correctness. I do it as well, you know. I curate my life in a way. It's always playing on my mind, kind of a love-hate relationship.

she's 16, guys. 16.

Some beautiful little shots from a recent trip up to the city-wandering around the fens in the pouring rain, eating crepes in a cozy little cafe....and the occasional creepy homeless man in the reeds. It's really weird, to be back sometimes, but it's also really wonderful-I miss my friends so much, I'm so happy to be around them. I stockpile days & memories like these, for the more humdrum moments when January seems so far away.

I love my ride home so much-the stillness, the changing colors, and the rich colors are intoxicating. It's my favorite part of the day.

Just want to issue a huge thanks to everyone who's visited, liked the facebook page, or submitted to Atlas Addict! just over two weeks ago it was launched and I've received four guides! To sound silly, i'm bursting with pride over my little corner of the internet, and excited over making (even the smallest) little change to the travel world and inspiring others to become global explorers. Wanna submit? email me at atlasaddictsubmit@gmail.com.

the thing about double exposure film is that its like memories, you know? all twisted and mixed,  experiences layered over eachother in a hazy, dreamy existence.
